I am still reading old newspapers.
Your gr-gr-gr-grandaddy Major McKeel who fought in the Civil War and was a magistrate in Greene County had a younger brother named Elisha. Elisha made his way all over Eastern NC. He worked at a boarding house in New Bern, moved to Greene County to farm, and finally ended up in Morehead City running a boarding house. Along the way he had one child to get kicked by a mule and die three days later, then while in Morehead he had a son to fall out of a three story window, and survived!
I have learned so much about this man it is unreal. He even grew a 15 pound beet that was 23 inches in circumference.
This is how he protested the "Fence laws" in Oct 1883.

Thanks for sharing.....love learning more about the McKeel family.
