My bum knee has slowed down the Christmas shopping, so some presents will be late. I still don't really know yet what a meniscus is.

Jimmy an Me

About 10 years ago I met Jimmy. Jimmy was at a workshop I attended, and I invited him to the Family History Center. He came the very next week, thus beginning our friendship. During the course of our research we discovered Dr Dave working on the same family line. One problem though, Dr Dave was white, and Jimmy was mixed race. I contacted Dr Dave, which again became an admirable acquaintance (he is really smart)! Since 2012 Dr Dave, Jimmy, and myself have worked on this family line. I provided all of the research from NC, Jimmy and his family provided family stories and DNA, and Dr Dave put it all together with a professional geneticist.

Over the past couple of years Jimmy has been stricken with Alzheimers, his daughter who was part of our research team has passed away, and research has slowed to a crawl. Until last night!

I received an email from Dr Dave to inform me that he would be presenting our research at the Southern California Genealogical Society’s Annual Conference in June, and invited me and Jimmy to attend.

Presentation Description At Emancipation Henderson Dowell of Wilkes County, North Carolina, was 20 years old and enslaved by Pricilla Dowell. His living descendants are mixed African-American and European-American. Did his paternal ancestors come to America from Europe or from Africa? 

I know I won't be able to go, but I know it will be recorded. Helping someone else sometimes ends to be very rewarding.

A family vacation without bickering or fussing. We actually ALL really enjoyed ourselves...... Well, part of that was because Cindy went with the kids to Silver Dollar City!

Nicolas

Just got my first email today from Nicolas. He will be at the MTC until the 29th I think.
His first dozen of Krispy Kreme were delivered on Wednesday.
Today he was complaining about how cold it was.........and there's snow on the ground! Boy does this boy have some things to learn about life in Utah!! ! !

Oh yes I Did! ! !

Sherrill is back working night shift, painting the inside of Bojangles on Capital Blvd in Raleigh.

So...... as usual........Jack is in the CRAZY mode. He barks ALL NIGHT. He thinks Sherrill is in the house and just won't go to bed. He barks, and barks, and barks! SO......... today I was bold enough to go and buy this..... a Bark Collar.

When Sherrill woke up around lunch time, I showed it to him and he was furious. He said him and Jack were packing up and were going to leave! After I told him that would be OK, he told me that I was NOT going to hurt his dog. 

I explained that I was up all night putting him in the bedroom, in the kitchen, taking him outside, back and forth over and over. I think my eyes were closed for a minimum of two hours, and even then, Jack continued to bark. We have been through this for 2 nights this week, and that's too much!

I'll let you know if Jack and I survive the night. I have work tomorrow, so I WILL get some sleep tonight! 

In the meantime, if you hear the rumor of an old man going down the road with a suitcase, and a dog,

you know who it will be!

Dad told me today that November 6th was his anniversary for joining the US Army. He joined in 1952, at the young age of 23....almost 24. He took off his boots and was discharged on November 5, 1954.  He served his time in Korea. When asked if he wished he had stayed in service, he replied "If I did, I probably would have been sent to Vietnam, and I don't know if I would have made it out of there"! We were more than happy to have him at home with us!

yep, I came to town to do a few things and within 5 minutes from being at mom's Mr Fred started packing up his stuff and decided it was time to move out.  Within 90 minutes he was gone.

All in a day's work

150 members of the church from Virginia came to Goldsboro, to meet up with about another 150

people . The furniture was already out of Fred's house, but they helped taking out kitchen cabinets,

pulling up vinyl, clearing up yard debris, etc. THRITY people showed up to Fred's house.

Most of the others went to Hood Drive, and to Mt Olive, and to various places around Goldsboro.

They even took out the toilet!

Can YOU survive McDonald's Drive Thru?

Yes, we have all done it!
Been here, done that.
Well, Sherrill tried it a new way. He wrecked MY CAR in the McDonald's drive thru.
We were all over at 405 Croom Drive helping our old neighbors move everything out of their house, and Sherrill took MY car to pick up lunch. (I NEVER eat McDonalds, but nothing else was open).
He comes back, is nice enough to let me eat my lunch, then he springs it on me......... the little dinger
on the front.
HOW does ANYONE wreck in a drive thru I will never know.
Blame it on the flood I guess.

Update.........

We were able to get into Croom Drive.
Roof has to be Replaced.
Duct work under house has to be torn out.
Insulation under house has to be torn out and replaced.
Carpet inside has to be torn out, not because of water, but because of nasty renters!
Entire interior has to be cleaned, fumigated, patched, and repairs.
Almost all of the light fixtures are gone. Closet doors are missing.
Tile has to be taken up from kitchen floor.
And a monstrous screened in area outside has to be torn down and hauled away.

Come one come all. Just wanted to let you know you are invited!
Oh well, there goes the Christmas money.

Another BO Adventure

I just received one of those calls where you just know something is wrong.
Sherrill: "JUDY, do you know what time it is?"
Me: Yes Sherrill it is 7 o'clock.......what's wrong.
Sherrill: "Did you realize I left for work way to early?"
Me: Yes dear, I asked you why you were leaving early, and you said they close at 9:00 tonight, so you      
        were going to get there early.
Sherrill: "Well why did you let me leave at 6:15 then? ? ? ? I called my man and asked him why he
        wasn't here yet."
Me: That's OK dear, just get your prep work done, have some chicken, and wait until 9:00.

This change of shifts is really confusing him. I hope he survives through it.
Remind me to tell you about the night I almost called 911.

A New Discovery

I did one of those Facebook test....... the ones that I NEVER do. It showed a series of shapes, etc. each one with one just a little different. I picked out EVERY SINGLE one! No wonder I am so OCD about food in my kitchen cabinets and pantry. Well, now I know.

True Story

Kat was out this week with one of the employees that works for the same nonprofit she does. They were out working, and stopped at KFC. Now, the man is a man, but wears make-up, pulls his hair back in a scrunchy, wears women's blouses, and blue jeans. Kat was making her way to the bathroom,
and he was following behind. As she enters the one toilet, one sink restroom, she turns around and there he is! So, what do you do...... welcome him on in.......ask him to leave......... what is politically correct? We know how North Carolina feels about the situation, but what about YOU?

Yep, I did it again

Yesterday when I got home from work, I was loading up my purse, lunch, drink, water bottle, mail, etc and made my way to the back door. I made it up the steps, unlocked the door, left foot over the threshold, then it happens! The heel of my right foot got stuck under the screen door, off flew my shoe, and there was nothing to grab hold of. I was half in, and half out the door. The left knee was hurting, and the heel of the right foot. "That Stupid Sherrill", I just had to yell out. I had been asking for rails at the front and back door, just in case I needed them. So, yes, I said the "Stupid" word that I know is not allowed. This morning as I hobbled to my chair he just looked at me. "I wouldn't be hurting today if I had a rail at the back door" was all I said. He picked up the phone book and called a man that does iron and metal work. I just might get those rails after all!

As I sat in the chair thinking over yesterday events I realized I had unloaded cases of food from my car into the food pantry at work. The case of sugar itself weighed 40-50 pounds. Perhaps that is what caused some of the original pain to my left knee. Maybe the old man isn't the "S" work after all.
So, I am fixing his favorite meal for dinner tonight.

Oh, he is working night shift tonight, spray painting the Bojangles in Princeton. Wonder how many cars he will damage? Any volunteers to go guard him? I told him he could get robbed or knocked in the head.

Betty Louise McKeel

Aunt Louise, Uncle Jimmy's wife passed away around 1:00 am today. She had been in the hospital for about a week with pneumonia and was sent to Kitty Askins Hospice Center around 8:00 PM yesterday. In case you didn't know, she had 3 children, Randy (lives in Fla), Danny, and Diane then she married Uncle Jimmy and had Little Jim.
She didn't want a funeral, just to be cremated. This is what appeared in the newspaper today.

Betty McKeel, 77, died today at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Arrangements are pending at Howell Funeral Home and Crematory.

Can you diagnosis the medical emergency here?
Jack has kidney stones, stones in his bladder, a very much enlarged bladder, and even a stone lodged in his penis. When they tried to catheterize him, it couldn't be inserted. So they had to force the stone backwards to his bladder. They knocked him out before they did it though.
If he doesn't start back peeing on his own, he has to go in for surgery to remove the stones from his bladder. Look on You Tube to see how they do that! Pa is sad....... so sad.
