Judy's Great Adventure Day 2

I was so excited last night, I was barely able to sleep. I was exhausted from working and packing all day. You would be surprised how many items go into a travel trailer! We had the dishes, pots, pans, utensils, canisters, ice trays, toiletries, clothes, food, fishing items, cleaning items, electronics, linens, and everything but the kitchen sink! It was already there.

We got up early this morning to start our day, and to load down my car. And boy did we load it down!
10:00 was lift off. We were out in the front yard at 9:30 though ready to start our grand adventure.
I moved my car out to the road so Sherrill could back out the trailer. He was going to just drive it through the yard, and go out the other side by the neighbors fence, but it was too sandy. Sherrill had gotten his truck stuck over there when he brought in a trailer full of rocks. Any way back  to my story. He was able to back out, after almost hitting the neighbors car that was parked in HER driveway. There were a few loud words spoken, but no profanity. Kathy had already threatened/suggested the night before to call one of Mandy's old boyfriends to haul it to the beach for us!

We were off, the old man leading the way, and me following behind. We traveled for about 2 hours 20 minutes. The worst part was near the Duplin County line. The roads were narrow, cars were trying to pass at a high rate of speed, and there goes Sherrill, on and off the road. Yes, even through the swamp land. The back right wheel would find itself of the shoulder of the road quite often. Oh, but did I mention the Driver's Ed car in front of Sherrill, leading the way at a whopping 35 MPH. We did get up to 40 one time! When we got to Beaulaville, instead of turning, he went straight to Bojangles.
Heaven forbid, right in the drive through line. Oh Jesus, doesn't he realize this trailer is 11 ft 6 inch high. Their clearance signs are like 8 ft. Thank goodness when he got up to it he went around the other cars to park on the side. There were even special three lanes to park these gigantic monsters.
We went inside go get our snacks and off again. We managed about 40 to 45 MPH the rest of the way.
Once we got near Holly Ridge, he did get up to about 50.

I called ahead to let Virginia in the office know we would be there soon, so she could open the gate for us. Sherrill went on through, and I headed to the office. We got everything taken care of, and Sherrill asked if there was someone there to help us out. Both maintenance men were busy, and one had just gotten off work. She asked him (James) to clock back in and come help us. And boy did he help. He helped Sherrill hook up everything. I had my instructions printed out, so I read, and they did it step by step. The water filters he had never used before, as well as the electronic stabilizers.
He was able to explain everything to Sherrill, (things I had learned from the you tube videos.)

The main problem we have had is we can't get the fridge to run off of electric, so right now it is using gas. No problem, the serviceman at Camper world said they would check it out when I bring it in for a 60 day checkup. Yes, we have to haul this monstrosity back to Greenville!

We just got back from Lowe's to buy some comfortable outdoor chairs. Sherrill is out there now watching the neighbors go by. I need to get out there and join him. Needless to say, I am exhausted! This entire week has been unreal, but so worth it! I will take pictures when I get things put up.

Later folks!

Judy's Great Adventure

Last Saturday Sherill carried me to Greenville to look at travel trailers. Little did he know I had already called them the day before, selected two that I wanted, and put an offer on one, but had the other as a back up plan with the same conditions. When we got there Sherrill rushed out of the car to one of the supersized ones that were parked out front. I knew it was way out of my price range.
We met the general manager that had approved my deal, and we went out with the e-commerce person that I spoke with on the phone forever. I looked at the two I had chosen, while Sherrill continued to look at everything else. I went inside, and within 30 minutes or so, all the paperwork was done. I had finally bought me a trailer.

We brought it home, and parked it right in the front yard where it has been sitting all week. Sherrill went out tonight to hook it up to his truck. He asked me to go out with my instructions to help him.
I had typed out directions from a you tube video on how to set it up, but not how to HOOK it up to the truck When he left for gas I watched a video on how to hook it to his truck, and wrote out directions.

When I got outside, he had already installed the sway bars on the back of his truck. I told him he had to do that part on like steps 3 or 4, but he kept insisting NO it had to be done FIRST. We raised and lowered that tongue a hundred times, and it kept hitting the bar, and would not drop on the ball. Truck up, truck back. Then I started reading the instructions from the beginning. After I got to about step six he said "oh, I need to take these bars off for now. I will just put them on later. Oh really Sherrill, you think that might work after 30 minutes of pissing and moaning.

I continued to read my instructions, and everything went smoothy ....well, until we plugged in the brakes and lights. Brake lights work, but not the running lights. Well, that is another problem for another day. He won't need running lights in the daytime anyway....I don't think!

So, we will be backing out of here in the morning (if we can make it out of the driveway) and headed  to Topsail Sound RV Park.

Say a little prayer, and do a little dance that we make it there safely. I will be driving behind him to honk the horn everytime he crosses the white or yellow line.

Stayed tuned for part two!
